Established in 1952, KNUST has a rich history in its evolution into a first class University over the years. Kwame Nkrumah, the African Personality of the Century and pioneer of African independence is the founder of KNUST. KNUST believes in achievement through diligence and commitment. We continue to develop plans not only to maintain our status as Ghana’s No.1 but also to improve our international standing.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is the current Chancellor of KNUST. He is the Asantehene and a direct descendant of the founder of the Asante Kingdom, Osei Tutu I.  He is well-educated and experienced and undoubtedly competently suited to be the Chancellor of KNUST. He is instrumental in the success and administration of the University.

Professor William Otoo Ellis  is a Professor of Food Science.

He started his basic school education at the Airport Police Basic Schools. He then continued to the St. John's Grammar School where he obtained his General Certificate Examination (GCE)/ Ordinary Level Certificate in 1979. He had his Sixth Form education at the Pope John's Secondary School at Effiduase, Koforidua, completing in 1981. He was admitted into the then University of Science and Technology (UST) in 1982 and completed in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science, Second Class Upper Division in Biochemistry.

Professor Samuel Nii Odai is the new Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Prof. Samuel Nii Odai, is a product of the Twedaase Primary and Middle Schools in Tema, Koforidua Secondary Technical School and the Hohai University in China where he graduated with BEng in Irrigation and Water Conservancy Engineering, the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology where he obtained his MSc and PhD degrees.

The Registrar's Offices is headed by the Registrar, who is the University's Chief Administrative Officer and Secretary to the University Council. The Registrar’s Office is divided into Academic & Students Affairs, General Administration, Human Resource Development, Legal & Welfare, and University Relations. There are other related offices and former registrars’ gallery.

The six colleges of KNUST are headed by six Provosts. The Provosts oversee the academic and administrative affairs of the colleges. The profiles of the Provosts are displayed in their respective colleges.

The University council of KNUST is the highest authority of KNUST. It is made up of members from various constituent units. Mr. P.V. Obeng is the current chairman of the Council.  The University Council members are displayed and there is a section for former chairpersons.

KNUST has several other offices which play important roles in the administration of the school. As a community, KNUST has a hospital which caters for the University Populace and also for surrounding communities in Kumasi and beyond. There is an International Programmes office which is International students and other stakeholders can access to get all the information they require.

KNUST has enshrined in its University statutes book the following officers as the Principal Administrators of the University. These include the Vice-Chancellor, The Registrar. The Other Officers are The Finance Officer, The University Librarian,  The Director of Works & Physical Development, The Internal Auditor and The Director of the University Health Services.
