The University College of Management Studies (UCOMS) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with KNUST in a bid to enhance partnership through institutional affiliation.
The areas of affiliation would cover business related undergraduate programmes (BSc) including Human Resources Management, Banking and finance, Accounting and Marketing.
The Vice- Chancellor, Professor William Otoo Ellis, in his remark, pledged KNUST’s support for UCOMS, particularly towards quality teaching to an appreciable standard. He expressed his satisfaction for the success and progress chalked up by UCOMS over the years, and said he was optimistic that the partnership would be beneficial to both institutions.
The Rector of UCOMS, Professor Nathaniel Kofi Pecku, in his address, expressed his profound appreciation to the management of KNUST for welcoming the partnership. He was hopeful that it would chart a new path for UCOMS to address its challenges in the future.
Professor Pecku further gave the assurance that, UCOMS is poised to live up to expectation, and would uphold academic decorum to enhance its existing relationship with KNUST.
The University College evolved out of the Institute of Management Studies(IMS), a Tutorial College which prepared students for professional qualifications in Marketing (Chartered Institute of Marketing - CIM), Accounting (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants - ACCA) and Purchasing and Supply (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply - CIPS). Its students have since 1978 been taking United Kingdom external examinations in professional courses. The Institute was accredited by the National Accreditation Board, and its programmes are well patronised.
Among the dignitaries from UCOMS who accompanied the Rector were: Dr. Sazvar Opata, Chairman of Board of Directors; Nana P.K. Achinah, Vice-Rector; Mr. Manukure-Henaku Kofi, Registrar (Accra Campus); and Nana Kwaku Kunadu, Registrar (Kumasi Campus).
